Shandre Jansen (George High School), Ronell Robertson (Outeniqua High School) and Sonia Speelman (Thembalethu High School) received their study bursaries at the Nedbank Head Office in Cape Town on Saturday 14 March.
They can pursue a three year degree or diploma in the fields of economics, finance, mathematics, accountancy and or commerce, at one of any of the universities in the Western Cape.
Shandre Jansen, who was second overall, said "It is a dream come true. I entered the essay competition with the strong encouragement by my teacher, Solomon Adams. He had faith in me although I don’t think he realised at the time how much work it would entail. The essay was a comparison between Nigeria and South Africa in terms of their economic and social indicators and recommendations to restore SA’s leading economic role in Africa."
Besides the bursary, Jansen received an additional R8 000 cash prize.
