GEORGE NEWS - Struggle veteran Beauty Nothobile Sampo was laid to rest on Saturday 28 April at the Thembalethu cemetery, where family members and her comrades paid their last respects.
Mama Sampo served the ANC as the branch secretary and became the first black female councillor in George in 1995. She served as a councillor in Ward 11 from 1995 to 1999.
Those who attended the funeral included provincial ANC leadership, Lulama Mvimbi and George Mayor Melvin Naik.
Speakers at the funeral described her as one of the strong women who fought tirelessly for development and empowerment of the poor.
