GEORGE NEWS - The Executive Mayor of George today added his voice and that of George council and the municipality to those calling for a stop to the ongoing, persistent violence in our country and particularly the scourge of violence against woman and children.
The male councillors and officials present at the Ordinary Council of Thursday 22 August stood together to show their solidarity for the reduction of Violent Crime against Women movement during Woman’s Month showing their support for the plight of increasing crime against women, not only during the month of August, but also throughout the year.
“I am deeply saddened by the current violent actions against women and children, not only in our municipal area but across our country. This brutality is in direct contrast of the ubuntu culture we once experienced soon after democracy.
"Some attacks on women lead to their unfortunate death which in turn has left children destitute and vulnerable. I agree with the President that harsh action should be taken against perpetrators of rape and other sexual offenses, “ said Ald. Naik.
“I call on all community leaders to take a stand against rapists and murderers and join me in the call on SAPS and law enforcement authorities to apprehend offenders.”
