GEORGE NEWS - Hope Church George is gearing up for Serve Day on Saturday 16 July. Serve Day is celebrated annually by churches all over the world through outreaches within their community.
The reason for this initiative is quite simple.
"It is to see complete and radical change of a person's life caused by simple acts of kindness for the glory of God," says Petri Esterhuizen of Hope Church. "The aim is to bring God's kingdom on earth as it is in heaven and to start a church revolution through serving."
Hope Church George will be reaching out to 22 organisations in the George area.
Some of the activities that will take place include painting, cleaning, handing out of cupcakes, spending time with the elderly and taking part in Conville Police's project against domestic violence.
"Anyone interested can sign up for any location they want to serve on Serve Day, on Hope Church George's website. Some of the locations do have a limit on the number of volunteers, therefore it is first come, first served," says Esterhuizen.

Other ways of support
Cupcakes will be dropped off at Mediclinic George and Geneva and at George Hospital for all the staff members. Hope Church George also wants to give cupcakes to community members at the locations they visit.
A minimum of 600 cupcakes are needed. Donations of either cupcakes or money to buy cupcakes, will be of great help.
Cupcakes can be dropped at the church on 15 July or the morning of 16 July between 08:00 and 08:45.
Hope Church George will also be doing a lot of painting and varnishing at various locations.
"For this reason, we will need a lot of stock," says Esterhuizen. "You can either donate paint or varnish by contacting the church and we can tell you what we need specifically, or you can donate money and we will go buy the paint that is needed."
