GEORGE NEWS - On Monday morning at 03:00 Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) inspector André Baartman and field officer Vanessa Lucas were called out after a horse was knocked over and killed by a small truck on the N2 near Delville Park.
According to Baartman, there were four other horses running around on the highway.
"Thankfully no people were injured, but it could've been much different. It was a gruesome scene. Incidentally one of the horses that was running around on the highway belongs to the same man whose horses we confiscated after they were running around on the Pacaltsdorp bridge two days before.
"The same man cut open our gates on Saturday morning, 18 July, threatened our staff members and demanded his horses back," Baartman said.
According to inspector Andrea Auerbach, who has a huge passion for horses, free-roaming horses in Pacaltsdorp, especially in Syferfontein, are a huge problem.
"The biggest problem is that the horses just keep breeding as there is no control and stallions aren't being gelded.
"We would love to assist these horse owners by gelding the stallions, but unfortunately our limited funds do not provide for that," she said.
If anyone is willing to donate towards gelding of stallions, please contact the SPCA on 044 878 1990.
