GEORGE NEWS - Gym junkies will be happy to know that the premises where Virgin Active has moved out will be undergoing a R15m refurbishment for the new tenant, Planet Fitness.
Since the lapse of the Virgin Active lease at 1A Witfontein Road, there has been much speculation about the future of the property.
On Friday 26 August, the owner, local developer Marius van Huyssteen, confirmed that a long-term lease was recently signed with Planet Fitness after due consideration of what would be in the best interests of the community.
"I have realised there is a definite demand for a fitness centre on these premises and we are delighted that Planet Fitness was eager to enter into an agreement. The site lends itself excellently to this purpose," said Van Huyssteen.
The swimming pool will remain as part of the facilities.
Renovations start Thursday 1 September, and Planet Fitness' aim is to start trading on 1 December.
"The property has huge potential for further expansion and we are working on some exciting plans for the future in this regard," said Van Huyssteen.
