GEORGE NEWS - An informal meet and greet was held at the brand-new Planet Fitness on Friday 9 December amid a flurry of construction and installation teams adding the finishing touches to the interior to be ready for opening day on Saturday.
The site in the Heather Park Shopping Centre in Witfontein Road underwent a R15m refurbishment and gym junkies can train their hearts out on an extensive range of state-of-the-art equipment. Lynx Real Estate oversaw the refurbishment.
The property owner, local developer Marius van Huyssteen, welcomed his new tenants and said he was delighted to have entered into an agreement with Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness managing director Mannee de Wet said they have been waiting a long time to open a club in George.
"I am super excited. We could not have hoped for a better site. I would like to thank all the developers and contractors who helped so that we could open in time for the season."
The gym is fully equipped and offers a full range of fitness classes, a spinning studio and child-care section, among others.
The owners of the Bootlegger coffee shop inside the gym, Theo and Natashia van Schalkwyk, were happy to serve coffee to their first patrons at the weekend.
