GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Participants in the 2021 Garden Route City Nature Challenge get free entrance to the Garden Route Botanical Garden on the four days of the challenge from 29 April till 3 May.
All you need to do, is present your smartphone with the iNaturalist App at the entrance.
Some great prizes are up for grabs to six lucky people who participate during the specified dates.
The Garden Route Botanical Garden is offering four annual memberships to the garden to four participants who upload 40 or more identifiable observations depicting no less than 20 species during the challenge.
SANParks is offering one ticket for four people to visit Ebb and Flow in Wilderness. The visit includes access to canoeing. This will be valid until the end of 2021, excluding season time. To qualify, you must upload a minimum of 80 identifiable observations depicting no less than 40 species.
CapeNature is offering one ticket for two nights for four people at either Goukamma, Gamkaberg or Grootvadersbosch nature reserves. The prize is valid for six months from the date of issue, excluding season time. To qualify you have to upload a minimum of 160 identifiable observations depicting no less than 60 species.
In all the above challenges, one observation is for one species. Participants may not upload multiple species into one observation.
The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and document plants and wildlife in cities across the world. Cities compete against each other to see who can make the most observations of nature, who can find the most species, and who can engage the most people.
To take part in the Garden Route City Nature Challenge, create your own iNaturalist account online at iNaturalist.org. Download the app from the AppStore or Google Play. Sign in, and start sharing your observations. You will get feedback from actual scientists, experts, and other naturalists.
