GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route SPCA is in the process of opening a case of animal cruelty against a dog owner from Pacaltsdorp.
Trainee inspector Andrea Auerbach received a call from the owner at approximately 20:00 last night, 5 March. According to her the owner said that his dog had been bitten last Saturday, 29 February, and her condition has suddenly deteriorated.
“He told us we had to collect the dog because he didn’t want to touch her. When I arrived, the dog, Lady, was just lying there, almost lifeless. She was still breathing but a sickening smell was coming from her,” she said.
Lady’s untreated wounds had become infected and maggots were crawling in an open wound in her neck. She was loaded into the SPCA vehicle by the owner’s son who used bread bags to cover his hands.
Unfortunately on arrival at the SPCA clinic, Lady was unresponsive. She was still alive but due to the deterioration and nature of her wounds the decision was made to euthanise her to end her suffering.
