GEORGE NEWS - National Children’s Day was celebrated at Pacaltsdorp High School on 5 November. This annual event was presented by George Municipality and non-governmental organisations and government departments to highlight progress towards promoting the rights of children.

About 500 adults and children attended a programme presented by three learner from local primary schools.

The keynote address was delivered by the Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Daniel Maritz and the Mayor from the Junior Town Council, Raven Hannes, who addressed the protection and leadership development of children.

Awards were presented to children nominated by the principal and staff for outstanding achievement.

The programme included a variety of items by local schools, activities such as games, jumping castles, arts and crafts stalls, a song and dance competition, information and food stalls. The SAPS Mili-tary Band and the SAPS fitness challenge added to the entertainment of the day.

The George Municipality thanks SAPS, the Department of Education, primary schools that participated, KFC, the Department of Social Development, Metro Ambulance Services, Eden District Municipality, the Eden Lions Club (Leo Club), Security Zone, YFC’s Kidstop and the Junior Town Council.
