GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - This coming festive season, residents, vendors and visitors to the Garden Route have the opportunity to be part of a fabulous new market hosted inside a historical museum!
The entire market at the Outeniqua Transnet Transport Museum in George from 15 December to 6 January is taking place under one roof, making it weatherproof and very safe.
The man behind the market is Pieter du Plessis of SA for Hope, well known as a person who makes extraordinary things happen. SA for Hope is a non-profit, non-government organisation not only assisting farmers and their farmworkers in drought-stricken areas, but also giving humanitarian assistance and support by creating a network of support.
And this market is no exception. It offers over 200 stalls, a kids' corner, a food court, a beer garden and much more - and to crown it all: entry to the market and museum is completely free for the three weeks that the market is in progress!
Not only is this one-of-a-kind market under one roof, but it is one of very few markets, if not the only one, taking place inside an impressive museum. With so much to offer already, The Market @ Transnet Transport Museum brings crafters from all over South Africa together under one roof.
The kids' entertainment includes a "train" ride with carts pulled by an Evolution golf cart and the fascinating model train exhibition.
The beer garden offers a space where everyone can relax with a cold one after browsing through the hundreds of stalls and the food court's wide variety of stalls will satisfy even the fussiest of eaters.
Local artists, crafters, schools and businesses will showcase their products to add to this great market - and make sure to be there early on Thursday 21 December to receive your free George Herald!
The floor space of the museum stretches over 14 000m² and boasts steam locomotives, passenger coaches, vintage cars, furniture, silverware, cutlery and crockery from various periods of the transport industry, paintings, poetry, photographs and other rail-related items.
Be sure to visit the scale model train collection, the biggest collection open to the public in the southern hemisphere.

So, follow Du Plessis' advice and don't delay: "Don't wait for things to get easier, simpler or better. Life will always be complicated. Live the moment and be happy, otherwise you will run out of time!"
The Du Plessis couple, Pieter and Ursula, live their lives to the full.
