GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Mossel Bay and surrounds are extremely popular with anglers.
Here are just a few pointers from locals on where to cast your line:
Musselcrackers - Beneke se Klip, Hartenbos or The Point.
Cob or elf - Klein-Brak. Don't try parking at the river mouth; turn left when you get there. There is another parking area, where the rocks meet the sand about 1km to the left of the river mouth. The whole stretch of beach is suitable, but the best spot is about 100m from where the rocks stop.
The tide is not as important as being there from two hours before sunset to two hours after. Elf can be thick here at times. The best bait would be fresh octopus that you caught on the rocks there, feelers still twitching, and sardines.
Cob and elf can also be caught at Dana Bay and Diaz Beach.
Garrick - Good catches have been made at Dana Bay. Walking a long stretch back towards Mossel Bay from Dana Bay will place you in the best position for a good catch, but you must be prepared to walk a bit.
Blacktail - Klein Brak and Tergniet/Reebok offer blacktail.
Zebra fish, Bloukop - Reebok abounds with these. You can also catch zebra fish at De Bakke.
Steenbras - Diaz Beach.
Do not fish in Marine Protected Areas or Marine Conservation Areas and ensure that you have the necessary permit. Take note of regulations pertaining to recreational angling, in particular the applicable seasons and minimum size limitations.
