GEORGE NEWS - A local high school student's study on frustration and aggression earned her a silver medal at the International Science Fair (ISF) in Johannesburg.
Dané Wiese of Outeniqua High School achieved this with her project "Bang your head here". She was one of eight learners from the Eden / Karoo who represented the Garden Route / Klein Karoo region at the ISF in Johannesburg from 2 to 5 October. All eight projects achieved at this event.
Nikita Valerie Schutte of Point High School in Mossel Bay received a special award - a R30 000 bursary from the University of Pretoria.
She was awarded in the category "Highly commended" with her project "Are we the generation that cannot do mathematics?", along with Tuwan van Rooyen of Môrester Secondary School, whose project deals with thermal insulation.
Two others who received silver medals are Johannes Barnard from Point High School with his design "Beach bin" and Shanté Strydom of Knysna High School with her project "Grey water is the future".
Those who received bronze medals include
Inge-Mare Talmaggies and Kaydee Jantjies from Knysna High School with their project "Let's go Grey Way!", Edwin Cupido of Zwartberg High School with his project "Fight against litter" and Samantha Beukes of Bridgeton Secondary School with her project "Colour affects my brain".
