GEORGE NEWS - Newly elected Executive Mayor Leon van Wyk initiated the first of many monthly e-briefings on Thursday last week following the second e-Council meeting at which the 2020/21 Draft Budget and IDP were tabled.
Approximately 40 local business owners participated in the MS TEAMS meeting with Cllr Van Wyk together with members of his Mayoral Committee and the administration, outlining his vision for George and tasks he has identified to be addressed in the weeks ahead.
The purpose of the e-briefing was to emphasize the importance of collaboration with the various business sectors and the facilitative role the municipality can play.
Top of the discussion was a high level summary of the draft 2020/21 Municipal Budget addressing the revisions to deal with the impact of Covid-19, as well as an explanation of the Public Participation Process which cannot take place as previously, with no public meetings or verbal presentations allowed.
The Draft Budget and IDP is available for inspection online and written comments are welcomed until 12 June.
Feedback from those who attended the e-briefing was overwhelming positive and Cllr Van Wyk was delighted to receive a personal text from Dr Willlie Cilliers, Chairman of Western Cape AHi, personally congratulating him on breaking the ice and wishing him all the best with his endeavours going forward.
