GEORGE NEWS - A robber who was finally arrested in 2019 after evading the police since 2016, was handed down a hefty sentence in the George Regional Court on Friday 10 September.
This follows a house robbery in Station Street in 2016 during which a 19-year-old victim was threatened with a knife and robbed of a cellphone, laptop, clothing items and other valuables.
Vuyisani Luthango (26) was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment following his conviction.
"Luthango, who was working in George at the time, disappeared following his first court appearance 2016. Investigation then took police to the Eastern Cape where he was arrested during 2019. He remained in custody ever since," said Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies.
Evidence obtained during the investigation took police to Whittlesea near Queenstown in the Eastern Cape where Luthango was arrested on the house robbery charge. Lengthy court proceedings concluded with his conviction and subsequent sentencing.
