Update
GEORGE NEWS - The "disabled duo", Sean Snyman and Carl de Campos decided a short while ago to disband their attempt to summit George Peak.
Snyman told the George Herald by cellphone they turned around after about 6 km. It is was because of a strong wind and for safety reasons. They were doing the hike to support the Garden Route SPCA and the Outeniqua Wheelchair challenge (OCC).
Sean has a disability in his right arm, and Carl is blind. Snyman is a member of the SPCA management committee and also a member of the George city council.
With Snyman (56) and De Campos (42) is Snyman's dog, Flame. Hester Stander is the hike manager.
They started just after 7:00 and the whole hike is about 20 km. The peak is about 1 150 m. The group consists of 9 hikers and the majority have turned around.
Snyman said everybody is safe. They are expected back at their starting point early this afternoon. More information as it follows,
