GEORGE NEWS - A group of about 100 people gathered at the Thembalethu police station last night, Wednesday 5 January, from just before 20:00.
They demanded the release of two suspects who are currently in police custody.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, reinforcements from the Public Order Police were dispatched to the station and the group dispersed peacefully at about 22:00.
"Information available indicates that two suspects are detained on charges of assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm. The case which led to the arrest of the pair was opened this month," said Spies.
Both suspects, aged 29 and 30, are to a appear in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s court on Thursday 6 January.
