GEORGE NEWS - Most of the libraries in George have been open since yesterday, Monday 24 August.

According to Rachel Williams, manager of the George municipal libraries, library users will have to adapt to new approaches and service delivery methods that will be implemented for the health and safety of library users and staff members.

“As from 24 August, George Library and other branches have started to issue books on an appointment basis,” she said.

Returned books are quarantined for 72 hours and sanitised according to the national and provincial standards.

Although Pacaltsdorp and Thembalethu libraries remain closed for now, the following libraries have been re-opened:
Avontuur, Blanco, Conville, George, Haarlem, Noll, Touwsranten, Uniondale and Waboomskraal.

• Library services are limited to borrowing and returning of library materials. Please also note the amended operating hours and that wearing a mask and sanitising are compulsory.

• Access to the computer and study areas will be restricted. Children Section remains closed at all libraries, although adults are allowed to take out books for children. 

Children up to the age of 12 years are not allowed in the libraries at this point.

• All library visitors should have their temperature read prior to entering the facility. Visitors with a temperature of 37.5º C or above, or any of the known Covid-19 symptoms, will be denied entry into the library.

• Some libraries will allow patrons to borrow up to ten books for a period of one month.
