GEORGE NEWS - Joy and excitement emanated from the packed hall of Tyholorha Primary School on Saturday 29 October when one of the most prestigious gospel events in the region was held in Thembalethu.
The event, hosted by Intimate Worship with Sisanda Mjekula Rephidim Gospel Singers and Andile Xelegu, was attended by business leaders, church leaders and local leaders, including current councillors.
In addition to the hosts, some of the greatest gospel artists on the regional scene took part, including Nolwando Solwandle, Xolisa Kwinana, Lungelo Hlongwane, Veliswa from Skeyi King Williams Town, EBMQ from uMtata, Anele Sabani, Zintle Langa, LY Music, Lwandile Mlobi and Zukile Matshaya.
The event was sponsored by Tavcor, Hollywood Bets, Vodacom and Palm Tyre.
One of the event organisers, Andile Xelegu, told George Herald on Saturday evening that they wanted to bring back gospel music to the communities in George.
He said other music genres such as gqom, amapiano, hip hop, African music and R&B have stolen the spotlight in recent times and they wanted to put gospel back where it belongs.
They plan to make this gospel display an annual event in George. "A big shout out to thank everyone for their support for this superb event in George!" he said.
