Dr Dower's best man at the wedding 50 years ago, Dr Peter Etellin, of Knysna, also attended the celebration.
The Dowers were married on 7 March 1964 in the Wellington Presbytarian Church and moved to George the following year when Dr Dower joined Drs Piet Steyn and Lood Vosloo in November 1965.
This means that hot on the heels of their 50th wedding anniversary, the Dowers will also be celebrating 50 years in George next year. They have one son and two daughters and boast eight grandchildren. Dr Dower is now sharing his practice at 72 York with Dr Christine Dykman.
