Wildeman, the ward councillor for Haarlem and surrounding areas, accused the DA government of not providing good service delivery. This allegation followed the mayor's 2013/2014 IDP speech in the Rosemoor Community Hall. Wildeman picked up a bottle filled with dirty water and alleged that it was a sample of the water that residents of Haarlem drink. Council proceedings then erupted in disorder when the community in the public gallery loudly commented in favour of Wildeman.
When the business of the day proceeded, Uniondale Councillor, Marchell Kleynhans (DA) took out a bottle, filled with clean water, claiming that this was the real water the residents of Haarlem drink. "Councillor Wildeman sent one of his family members to fetch water from a farm dam and now he wants to bring people under the wrong impression." Kleynhans and some other DA councillors proceeded to drink the 'real water'.
The George Municipality's Director for Civil Engeneering, Harold Basson gave the George Herald the assurance that the water in Haarlem and the surrounding areas conform to the necessary requirements for quality drinking water.
