GEORGE NEWS - A Thembalethu author, Nkosinathi Menziwe, is determined to promote literacy.
He is running a project where books are collected and distributed to schools where teachers show commitment and passion for the education of the child.
George Herald wrote about Menziwe last year when he launched his book of poems, Lolan' izikrweqe.
Menziwe says in 2019, on Mandela Day, he donated his own book to a local crèche, and now he promotes literacy at both primary and high schools. The project also aims to set up book clubs at the schools.
Last week Menziwe donated 20 of his own poetry books, which are written in English and isiXhosa, to schools in Thembalethu.
The schools promised to keep the books in their libraries for the pupils to use.
It is Menziwe's dream that more people will get involved and donate books to learning institutions.
He says donating a good book to a child empowers the child with resources.
