GEORGE NEWS - The body of a man was retrieved from the ocean near Wilderness beach yesterday, Wednesday 7 February at about 16:20.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, the body is believed to be that of one of the fishermen who disappeared in the water over the weekend.
The identity of the deceased cannot be confirmed at this stage, as a formal identification is yet to be done.
This past weekend, three local fishermen went missing in the George area; two at the shoreline south of Thembalethu, and one in Hansmoeskraal near Pacaltsdorp.
During the same weekend, three individuals were rescued from a rip current at Victoria Bay, among them a male teenager who was hospitalised in a stable but serious condition, while another man from George, Claudio 'At' Williams from Blanco, drowned at Souwesia beach in Great Brak River.
Three other people, a man and two women, also drowned in the Sedgefield lagoon.
