GEORGE NEWS - Less than a month after the burial of Mama Sampo, local political activist and former George councillor, another ANC stalwart has fallen. Lungile Goodman Veli (58), who joined the liberation struggle when he was in his 20s, passed away on Wednesday 9 May after a long illness.
He was buried at Thembalethu cemetery on Saturday 19 May. Soon after Veli joined the George Youth Congress in 1985, he was imprisoned (in 1986) for his political activities. In 1987 he joined the ANC military wing and had never since relented in his quest to liberate his people from oppression.
Veli grew up in Lawaaikamp where residents praised him as one of the greatest leaders they ever had.
Lungile Goodman Veli is honoured for his contribution to the liberation struggle.
