GEORGE NEWS - A man (37) was released from custody following an incident at his residence in Laing Street on Sunday morning, 15 August, at approximately 04:20.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies, the resident was in his caravan when he was confronted by an unknown man armed with a knife.
A scuffle ensued and the trespasser sustained multiple injuries. He collapsed inside the caravan and was later declared dead by paramedics on scene. The 37-year-old was arrested on a charge of murder.
"Circumstances surrounding this incident are being probed by George detectives. A case of house robbery was also opened which will form part of the overall investigation," said Spies.
The case was however not placed on the court roll and both matters, of murder and of house robbery, are currently being investigated.
"These cases would be taken for a decision to the National Prosecuting Authority upon the conclusion of the investigations. The 37-year-old man was subsequently released," said Spies.
"The identity of the deceased is yet to be determined."
