GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - The demand for affordable housing was clear on Saturday 23 February when people came in droves to the affordable-housing open day hosted by George Municipality and the Western Cape department of human settlements.
Four major banks were also present at the St Augustine Hall where it was held.
The aim of the day was to determine the demand in the affordable-housing market in George and also to inform interested residents of what their options are regarding possible renting of a municipal home, or qualifying for a housing loan and subsidy.
Camilla August, director of affordable housing at the human settlements department, said there was "phenomenal" interest. About 20 to 30 households were allowed through every 20 minutes.
