GEORGE NEWS - Some homeowners are grappling to come to terms with the vision of future densification as laid out in the municipal spatial development frame-work, especially where it pertains to "restructuring sites".
These sites are pockets of vacant land within the urban edge earmarked for mixed-use development, i.e. social housing, affordable (gap) housing, and commercial use.
The idea, according to the SDF, is to "reduce regulatory burden to unleash the capacity of many small investors and developers to contribute to the transformation of George" in these zones.
These sites are:
- Village Ridge behind King George Hotel;
- Rooirivierrif sport ground (between Kingswood Golf Estate and Dormehls-drift);
- Two pieces of land along Hope Street (near Correctional Services);
- Land opposite PW Botha Kollege;
- Land at the York Street exit on the northern side of the R102;
- Land to the west of Rosedale next to the N2 at the entrance to Pacaltsdorp;
- Glenwood mashie golf course land, through to the riding club land in Glenwood Venue;
- Open land opposite the Genevafontein retirement village in Meyer Street.
