GEORGE NEWS - A 24-year-old man was arrested by provincial traffic officers after he tried to evade a roadblock on the N2 near Eden Church early Monday morning, 15 May.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, members were deployed at the joint roadblock along the N2 when they saw a vehicle making a U-turn.
A high-speed chase ensued and the vehicle, a charcoal coloured VW sedan, was brought to a halt near the Far Hills Hotel.
"The traffic officials searched the vehicle and found six bags of dagga inside," said Spies.
The dagga, with an estimated street value of R500 000, weighed about 100kg. The suspect appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday 15 May where he was released on bail.
