GEORGE NEWS - A 29-year-old suspect was arrested in Thembalethu in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old man in Zone 6 on Saturday 25 May, just before midnight.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies reported that officers were dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim with a stab wound to his chest. Medical personnel declared him dead at the scene.
The suspect was later arrested in connection with the incident. He was scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday 27 May, on a charge of murder.
According to unconfirmed information, the victim and his girlfriend were joined by another female friend at a tavern, where they later met up with the latter's boyfriend, the suspect.
A fight ensued between the suspect and his girlfriend. The victim intervened and was stabbed.
In an unrelated incident in New Valley, Zone 9, the body of a 22-year-old man was found in an open field by a passer-by. The body had a stab wound to the neck.
Spies said the circumstances surrounding the victim's death are under investigation. Paramedics later declared the victim dead at the scene.
"A murder docket was opened for further investigation. The motive for the attack is yet to be established. No arrests have been made yet," said Spies.
