GEORGE NEWS - Three men, aged 27, 30 and 36, were arrested after some copper and copper cables were found in their possession in York Street near the George industrial area on Tuesday afternoon, 4 August.
According to the Southern Cape Police's spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, the police received information about suspected illegal activities and sent several role-players to investigate.
These included the George and Conville Crime Prevention Units, the George Public Order Police, the Thembalethu Police, George and Western Cape K9 units, as well as the Outeniqua Land Farm Watch and the Denneoord Neighbourhood Watch.
A vehicle suspected of being involved in the crime was flagged on various platforms. "The team spotted the vehicle along York Street, where it was pulled over.
A search ensued, leading to the discovery of the copper cables and copper. All the occupants were subsequently arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property," said Spies.
The trio remain in police custody and will appear in court once charged. George detectives are investigating the matter.
