GEORGE NEWS - A couple of days later might have been too late for Lexie. Luckily for this boerboel, the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) got to her in the nick of time on Thursday 19 September.
Lexie was rescued by the GRSPCA thanks to a concerned resident of Parkdene who contacted them about an emaciated dog that was kept on a chain.
GRSPCA senior inspector Salomé Bruyns jumped into action and found Lexie in a heartbreaking state. Due to being chained, Lexie couldn't scavenge for food, and her emaciated body is proof that she didn't get fed by her caretaker either.
"Her body and soul are broken. But she is safely in our care on her journey to recovery," said GRSPCA's marketing and fundraising manager, Sam Trietsch.
"We are incredibly grateful to the person who reported this. Thank you for your vigilance and concern. Charges will be laid."
A broken soul and body who, with time and love, will be nursed back to health.
