GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - The well-known law firms of JS Marais Inc and Le Roux Lamprecht Attorneys merged to become Marais Lamprecht Attorneys on 1 November this year.
Just over 20 years ago, the late Jan Marais and his son Charl opened what would later become the law practice JS Marais Inc in George.
After completing his articles at the firm, Charl spent several years working abroad, during which time he was also admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. In Charl's absence, Francois Lamprecht joined JS Marais & Co as an attorney in 2001.
In 2003, after becoming well established in local circles, Francois decided to broaden his horizons and, in partnership with this wife Reinette, started Le Roux Lamprecht Attorneys. In 2006 Charl and his wife Denise joined Jan at JS Marais & Co, which firm's name changed to JS Marais Inc after Jan passed away in 2017.
Over the years a strong bond was maintained between the two firms and due to their shared history it now seems almost inevitable that they would join forces.
The amalgamation of the diverse practices of Le Roux Lamprecht and JS Marais Inc means that the new firm of Marais Lamprecht (with seven attorneys and two candidate attorneys) has expertise across a wide spectrum of the law including litigation, collections, commercial law, family law, deceased estates and matrimonial matters.

Both firms had strong conveyancing practices and the merger enables Marais Lamprecht, which now has three conveyancers and a notary on its staff, to take the lead in any property-related matter. Marais Lamprecht also has a dedicated labour law department, managed by an attorney with almost six years exclusive labour law experience.
