GEORGE NEWS - What began as a kiddies party company has blossomed into a dynamic business now turning its focus toward corporate and private functions.
Myrtle Sacuenda, the creative force behind the business, launched Playtime Productions while living in Angola in 2013, orchestrating everything from dazzling décor to mouthwatering menus featuring a fusion of Portuguese and African cuisine.
With 21 years of hospitality experience - honed largely in casinos outside South Africa - Myrtle brought a seasoned touch to event planning, making her mark in Tanzania, Angola and the Carribean's vibrant scene before returning to South Africa.
The turning point came in 2016 when Myrtle clinched the Dragon’s Den competition in George, a win that catapulted Playtime Productions into a new league.
Once known for creative children’s parties, the business pivoted to more sophisticated affairs, mastering weddings with bespoke catering and décor.
By 2019, Playtime Productions was registered as a PTY, cementing its reputation with a lean yet talented team and Myrtle at the helm. Referrals began pouring in from government departments and private clients.
“We create. You celebrate.”
Now, Playtime Productions is setting its sights on bigger stages - corporate gatherings and exclusive private functions.
“We’re ready to do more,” Myrtle says, her eyes lighting up at the prospect. Her track record speaks volumes: she’s hosted high-profile events, including a ministerial visit and a function for Western Cape Premier Alan Winde in Knysna.
With a slogan like “We create. You celebrate,” Playtime Productions promises to take the stress out of planning, leaving clients free to enjoy the moment. Myrtle’s knack for networking with local entrepreneurs ensures every detail - from catering to setup - is executed with precision.

During the Covid pandemic, Myrtle expanded into cleaning and decontamination services, keeping the business afloat. In 2023, she completed a Facilitator & Assessor course, earning accreditation from Cath Seta to mentor budding entrepreneurs - a role she relishes.
Her assistant chef, Liezl Tarentaal, a seven-year veteran of the team, is now upskilling to become a qualified chef. “Nurturing entrepreneurs excites me,” Myrtle beams.
Beyond events, she runs a natural skincare line, crafting soaps and creams, and rents out holiday accommodations. “I’m a serial entrepreneur,” she laughs.
