BUSINESS NEWS - Planet Fitness officially opens its doors on Saturday 10 December to welcome the community of George. The club is located at the Heather Park Shopping Centre in Witfontein Road.

“We are a proudly South African, a growing brand, and George will be our 48th club in the group,” said managing director Mannee de Wet.

“We have had our eye on George for a while and were surprised when the competition did not renew their lease. We saw it as a fantastic opportunity to grow our footprint and bring Planet Fitness to George.”

The club is opening on 10 December 2022 but they have postponed the grand opening to 14 January 2023 to wait for everyone who has left George for the holidays to come back home. “The George community is very important to us - those are the people we want to make the most noise to,” said De Wet.

The swimming pool, which is of great interest to the George community, will stay as part of the offering for club members of Planet Fitness. The aqua aerobics too will continue.

All Planet Fitness clubs have generators, and are therefore not affected by load-shedding. “We have invested to make sure the club keeps on running - even if it means you want to check your e-mails and take a hot shower,” said De Wet.

The club’s presales started on 24 November when the very first person signed up as member. An array of options is on offer to members, as a split between retail and medical aid partner offers. Medical aid partner members (including Discovery Vitality, Sanlam Reality, Momentum Multiply and more) can save up to 80% on their gym fees if they sign up through official partners. Retail partners of Planet Fitness include Dis-Chem, Pick n Pay, Edgars and USN, allowing members to get more value by being a club member.

From 15 December 2022 to 15 January 2023 all Planet Fitness members have access to all clubs throughout the country. “We allow all our members national access for that period,” said De Wet. “And they can bring a friend along through a one-week free access link.”

One of the products Planet Fitness will always have available is their 'Buddy Tag', where anyone can bring a buddy to gym any time they visit the gym. Many couples and friends make use of this offer. Teens can also train free on a parent’s membership across the Planet Fitness group.
