GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipality has announced the temporary closure of a section of the N2 highway on Tuesday, 1 July 2025, to facilitate essential electrical maintenance.
The closure will affect the stretch of the N2 between Pacaltsdorp Bridge and Eden Place (formerly Rademacher’s), and is required for the safe lowering and repositioning of overhead electrical lines across the roadway.
The shutdown will take place between 22:00 and 04:00 the following morning, during which time both directions of the N2 between York Street and Knysna Road will be completely closed to traffic.
Alternative Date Scheduled
Should weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances prevent the work from being completed as planned, an alternative shutdown is scheduled for:
Wednesday, 2 July 2025 from 22:00 to 04:00.
Road Closures and Diversions
Motorists are advised that no access will be permitted on the affected section of the N2 during the specified hours. Closure points include:
York Street / Beach Road off-ramps to the N2
Nelson Mandela Boulevard / Thembalethu off-ramps to the N2
Knysna Road off-ramp to the N2
Traffic from central George will not be able to access the N2 in either direction, and vehicles approaching from Mossel Bay or Wilderness/Knysna will be diverted before reaching the closed section.
The George Municipality urges all road users to plan ahead and make use of alternative routes during this time. We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation as we carry out this critical infrastructure upgrade to ensure a more reliable electrical network.
