GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipality has become aware of an alleged scam in which individuals are posing as Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) personnel to extort money from job seekers.
Reports indicate that the scammer asks for money in exchange for a promise to add the applicant to the EPWP employment list for the upcoming month.
The scammer further instructs victims to send the money through a money transfer service, after which they are told to collect their uniform from the EPWP.
The municipality confirms that this is a scam.
The George Municipality's EPWP will never request payment for a guaranteed appointment.
