IGN is a series of performances held every year to bring the world's greatest and most accomplished acoustic guitar players to South Africa. Its main focus is on players who use their fingers to individually pluck the strings, creating bass, rhythm, melody and percussive lines all at the same time, like a mini-orchestra coaxed out of their fingers.
Acoustic guitar guru, the Tony Cox, IGN's creator, has toured extensively with Fafard in Canada and says, "Joel is one of the true gents of this world, ridiculously talented, a great player, great singer, humble and so very down-to-earth.
He gets all this across in his shows with the greatest of ease."
Also on the bill is the Canadian, Natasha Meister, who, at the age of 20, is making a huge impact on discerning SA audiences, especially in the blues/funk niche.
Natasha, who has recently settled in Cape Town, has a great bluesy, Motown voice, plays phenomenal electric and acoustic guitar and is a gifted songwriter.
Multiple award-winning South African guitarist Tony Cox has become a veritable icon of the instrument and has been described as one of South Africa's finest musical exports. Along with his six-string prowess, Cox delivers up a mix of his laconic humour with a fair dose of story-telling, taking any listener on an aural journey.
This not-to-be-missed concert tomorrow evening starts at 20:00.
Tickets are available at the door or from www.webtickets.co.za at R165 (discount available for scholars and pensioners). For any enquiries, contact Ken Perkins on 072 672 6003.
Tony and Joel will also be playing in Knysna on 15 December.
