GEORGE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Carpe Musicam! Orchestra will perform a potpourri of mainly 20th century works in their concert series named Hello Spring! during October, in George and Sedgefield.
One performance will take place at the Dutch Reformed Church in Sedgefield on Sunday 3 October (15:30) and two at the Methodist Church in George - Friday 15 October (19:00) and Sunday 17 October (15:30).
Featured works include The Maid with the Flaxen Hair by Claude Debussy and the famous Tango in D by Isaac Albeniz. Although this work was originally written for piano, the version played will be based on an orchestration by Sir Malcolm Sargent.
Slightly less serious is Dmitri Shostakovich's Waltz No. 2 which will be familiar to fans of the BBC TV series Midsomer Murders.
The screen composer John Williams needs no introduction. His arrangement for solo violin and orchestra, as performed by Isaac Perlman, of Por Una Cabeza by Carlos Gardel will mesmerise the audience.
There will also be selections of music from The Sound of Music, West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera. A Spanish march by Jaime Texidor, a Glenn Miller favourite and a popular item by the Scottish composer Iain "McPachelbel" complete the playlist.
Enjoy the magic of 20th century music as spring gets properly underway and support the Garden Route's very own orchestra.
