GEORGE NEWS - The Tale of Octavia Octopus, a multi-faceted show of vibrant music, dance, narrative and photography, is being presented on Friday and Saturday, 13 and 14 October at the Dotsure George Arts Theatre.
It tells the story of Octavia Octopus' life in the ocean. It has a compelling message that illuminates current marine environmental challenges, emphasising the detrimental impact of various types of pollution and the contrasting dream of returning to unspoilt natural beauty.
The work is written and directed by Ronell van Aswegen and presented by the Christelle Smit Dance Studio in collaboration with the Strandloper Project, a non-profit organisation with a vision to conserve marine biodiversity (visit their website at www.strandloperproject.org).
The contemporary choreography by Christelle Smit showcases the story of Octavia Octopus in an explicit and simultaneously entertaining way.
A variety of music genres were selected to merge the emotional aspects of fear, anger, happiness and joy with the visual impact of the stunning costumes and photography.
The narrator is Katherine Armstrong.
The backdrop for the dances consists of outstanding quality images projected onto a cyclorama screen. These are especially captured for the show by Chris Leggatt, Helen Walne and Mark Dixon, members of the Strandloper Project.
The narrator is Katherine Armstrong, the music IT is by Richard Edwards and the sound and lighting technician is Sevi Botha.
Tickets cost R100 - R130 and are available at Computicket.
