A triumphant 2023 Klassique

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - "Klein Karoo Klassique 2023 was a resounding success and exceeded all expectations. This year's festival programme included performances by some of the country's foremost classical musicians and was an exceptional experience."

These are the words of Hugo Theart, CEO and artistic director of this festival that was presented in Oudtshoorn until Sunday 6 August. According to Theart, a feature of the festival was larger audiences and higher ticket sales than last year.

"It is wonderful to see that the festival's numbers are growing and that there is a great interest in classical music. The atmosphere that was created with the addition of food, wine, and other opportunities to be festive also contribute to a wonderful experience for festivalgoers. The book talks and discussions with musicians is an aspect that festivalgoers thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated.

"Feedback from artists is positive and it is just as valuable for them to get to know audiences better and talk to them about their work and performances."

"Let's change tunes", music and art of all sorts were part of this year's event.

Theart further says that they are already looking forward to next year's Klein Karoo Klassique. "We present the 15th Klein Karoo Klassique in 2024, over the Women's Day long weekend from Friday to Sunday, 9 to 11 August. Make a note in your diary and circle these dates in your calendar. We have already started with planning and believe that this milestone festival will take this winter festival to much greater heights."

Coenie de Villiers was on stage during Klassique with the South Cape Children's Choir, directed by Jan-Erik Swart, as well as Cape Town Opera sopranos Brittany Smith and Alida Scheepers for 'n Karoonag, one of this festival's highlights. De Villiers also discussed works with artists on Friday and Saturday morning, which was an additional highlight for festivalgoers.

"There is only one place where classical music enthusiasts can hear the very best artists, enjoy a diverse repertoire and all of this under the clear skies of the Klein Karoo. I am of course talking about the just concluded Klein Karoo Klassique, which was again in full swing this year and provided a lot of entertainment," says De Villiers.

"It's the one place where you can have a good time with friends in one of the many excellent restaurants in the region, mixed with a bit of Bach and book talks, a pinch of fine art - all that in addition to the dash of jazz that is stirred in towards the end. Don't miss out next year."
