NATIONAL NEWS - The lead-up to the 2016 local government elections are in full swing, with political parties having to submit their nominations of ward candidates, together with all the necessary documents and deposits.
All of these had to be submitted by 17:00 on June 2.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is now working on a strict election timetable to ensure that the submitted nominations list is included in the certification party list on June 27.
Other dates are as follows:
• June 13: Cut-off date to notify party/independent nominator of noncompliance (outstanding documents).• June 20: Cut-off date for a party to submit outstanding PR candidate documents, and for a party independent to submit outstanding ward candidate documents.
• June 22: Cut-off date to notify party/independent nominator of candidates appearing on multiple party lists.
• June 24: Cut-off date for a party/independent nominator to submit revised or substituted lists in regard to candidates on multiple part lists.
• July 7: Notice of mobile voting station routes and notice of list of addresses of voting stations open for inspection.
• July 8: Closing of applications for special votes.
• August 2: Special votes home visitations, and special votes at voting stations.
• August 3: Election day.
