SWIMMING NEWS - The race is on for Mzansi’s aquatic stars as the 2019 SA National Swimming Championships heads for the coastal city of Durban, with the action taking place at the Kings Park Aquatics Centre from 8th to 12th April.
This year’s event also doubles as the official selection trials for the 18th Fina World Championships which will be held in Gwangju, Korea from 21st to 28th July 2019.
Chad le Clos will be back in the water, swimming the 50, 100 and 200m butterfly, as well as the 100 and 200m freestyle, with the up and coming Eben Vorster and Calvin Coetzee joining Le Clos in the freestyle, while Ryan Coetzee will take on the Olympian in the butterfly events.
Ayrton Sweeney and Alaric Basson will battle it out in the 200m breaststroke, with Sweeney also participating in the 200m and 400m individual medley and Basson in the 50m freestyle and the 50 and 100m breaststroke.
Rebecca Meder, who swam four Qualification times for the Fina Junior World Championships at the recent SA National Junior Age Group Swimming Championships, will be looking forward to swimming at senior level when she races in the 100 and 200m freestyle, the 200 and 400m individual medley and the 100m breaststroke.
