GARDEN ROUTE RUGBY NEWS - At its monthly meeting on Thursday 25 April, the Mossel Bay Town Council approved the use of the D'Almeida Stadium for a rugby festival to be held on Saturday 12 May.
The festival is an initiative of the SA Rugby Union and SuperSport to take provincial rugby to the people. Fans will be pleased that entrance to the event is free of charge.
The SWD Rugby Union has decided that the match between SWD Arende and Zimbabwe, as well as the game between the Free State Cheetahs and Eastern Province, will be features of the festival.
Club matches between the Barbarians and George rugby clubs will also be part of the festival.
The provincial matches and the matches between the first teams of the respective clubs will be televised on SuperSport.
All arrangements regarding the rugby festival will be dealt with jointly by the SWD Rugby Union, the Barbarians Rugby Club, and the Mossel Bay Municipality. The municipality will support the festival financially.
Saturday's programme at the D'Almeida Sport Stadium is as follows:
- 07:30 - Barbarians C vs George C
- 08:45 - Barbarians B vs George B
- 10:00 - Barbarians A vs George A
- 12:00 - EP Elephants vs Free State XV
- 14:00 - SWD Eagles vs Zimbabwe.
Entrance is free and no alcohol will be allowed.
All the matches from 10:00 onwards will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
