BODYBUILDING NEWS - For Sanéy Vorster, stepping onto the bodybuilding stage was about far more than physique.
It was the result of years of perseverance, family support, faith and a determination to discover how far she could take her passion for the sport.
Her inspiration began with her grandfather, Barry Howell, a lifelong natural bodybuilder who continued competing into his 70s and won several titles. His dedication planted the seed that would eventually grow into Vorster's own competitive journey.
Although she has trained throughout her life, this 37-year-old began preparing seriously for competition three years ago.
Her development accelerated after she joined forces with international coach Warren Germishuizen, known in bodybuilding circles as the 'Mad Scientist'.
Her road to the stage has included significant challenges. Born with hip dysplasia, Vorster underwent a full hip replacement in 2024. Rather than allowing this setback to derail her ambitions, she continued working towards her goals.
A mother of four - Victoria (15), Vivienne (12), Vera (6) and Hermann (5) - Vorster has also had to balance family responsibilities with demanding training and preparation. She credits her husband, also Hermann, as her biggest supporter throughout the journey.
That determination produced a remarkable result at the NPC 2026 Muscle Mulisha GrandPrix X in Durban on 19 September, where Sanéy made her competitive debut.
She won every division she entered - true novice, novice, open bikini class B and over 35+ - before taking the overall title.
The victory earned her her qualification and a paid entry to the NPC African Pro qualifier, where she will compete for the opportunity to earn her Pro Card.
Sanéy expressed her appreciation to Garron and Candice Whitehead for their contribution to the NPC community in South Africa, and for creating opportunities for athletes to pursue the sport at a high level.
Her Christian faith remains central to her journey, and she gives glory to Jesus Christ for her opportunities and achievements.
Her next challenge is the iCandy Classic Mother City on 24 October, with international competition and the ultimate dream of reaching the Olympia stage firmly in her sights.
