SPORT NEWS - The 2026 Growthpoint SA Squash national regionals were held in George over the weekend of 19 to 21 June.
This prestigious event is part of Squash SA's national championships, and the winner of each of the eight qualifiers around the country will compete in the grand final with South Africa's top eight players.
The matches were fiercely contested, and the local community was treated to some top talent in SA.
In the women's section, Lizelle Muller of the Eastern Cape showcased her class by not dropping one game throughout the event.
Local squash pro Jean-Pierre Brits turned back the clock and displayed some of his best squash in recent years to defeat the Eastern Province's top player, Gerrard Mitchell, 3-1 in the final.
This event gave local players the opportunity to witness and compete against some of the best players in SA. The qualifiers will be seen in action at the V&A Waterfront from 20 to 22 August.

Next in line
The annual U11 SA Junior Interprovincial (IPT) Squash Tournament will be played in George from 27 to 30 June.
A total of 18 teams (72 players) from all over the country will arrive in George on Saturday for this four-day event.
"Eden Junior Squash is excited to host these champions of tomorrow!" said Johnny Munro, a court marshal of the tournament.
