GEORGE GOLF NEWS - The final rounds of the very popular John Dory's Mixed Trips were played at George Bowling Club.
The Mixed Trips were played over a period of three months. The overall winner was the team of Riaan Laing, John Mundell and Francois Lamprecht, having accumulated the most points over the three rounds.
This competition has become so popular that all three greens were filled to capacity. The majority of participants are members of the hosting club, but there were also players from neighbouring clubs from as far as Hartenbos.
As at each of the rounds previously played, every player received a meal voucher for John Dory's George. They were also treated to a meal consisting of John Dory's famous hake and chips, prepared and served at the club by the manager, PJ Ridgard, and Gary Hepborn, owner of John Dory's George.
At the prize-giving Hepborn expressed his satisfaction with the reaction of the bowlers to the sponsorship and announced that he would continue with the sponsorship in 2020, for which he received a standing ovation from the bowlers.
Hepborn's father is an enthusiastic bowler in Scotland, hence his affection for, and continued support of the sport of bowls in George. He also made a contribution towards the development of bowls in this area, for which he was thanked by Johan Havenga, the oldest active member of the club and trainer / guardian of the development of bowls among the youth.
