GEORGE NEWS - Local football legend Heaven Henge was surprised with a grand birthday party in the Zone 9 Community Hall last Saturday when he turned 59.
Henge, a father, brother, leader, motivator and the owner of Heaven Stars Football Club, has played a massive role in the development of young soccer players in Thembalethu.
Former soccer player and EFF ward councillor Luvuyo Ncamile organised the party attended by Henge's family, the Thembalethu Community Police Forum, soccer players, residents, community leaders, football coaches, Safa Eden referees and the current Dstv Premier Soccer League match official, Masixole Bambiso.
Ncamile said he met Henge at the young age of 14 at the Thembalethu Stadium when Henge recruited him to play for his first team, Heaven Stars, as a goalkeeper.
"As young man I learned a lot from this football legend, on and off the field." He also thanked Ters Gilliomee for providing him with a beautiful junior soccer kit and Fadlie at Fish Palace who donated burgers to serve the people during the birthday.
Bambiso said that as a match official, he learnt a lot from Henge, saying he is a straight talker.
