FOOTBALL NEWS - The Lawaaikamp soldiers Simunye FC received their SAB League status after doing very well in the LFA's winners promotional play-offs to the league. Simunye started the play-offs with a 1-1 draw against the Mossel Bay team Benfica FC on Friday night 12 July at Riverville Stadium in Riversdale.
To qualify, Simunye played a 2-2 draw against Springbok from Oudtshoorn, putting them in second position after Springbok on goal difference. Both Springbok and Simunye were promoted to the SAB Regional League for the 2019/2020 season.
Simunye will be the ninth team to represent George in the SAB regional League. The other George teams in the league are Black Cats, Eastern City, Young Blues, Paris United, Diego Masters, Young Pirates, United Brothers and Heaven Stars.
Simunye are now facing new challenges in the SAB Regional League. The league wants to see more u.21 players, so-called development players, rather than seniors. The age restriction will make things difficult for the newly promoted side. For the love of sports, let's hope they will find a way of recruiting more u. 21 players in order to remain in the biggest competitive league, the SAB.
