SOCCER NEWS - Paris United FC boosted its survival hopes with a narrow 1-0 victory over fellow stragglers De Rust United in a tense relegation battle at Lawaaikamp Stadium last weekend.
Fresh from promotion to the regional elite league, the Thembalethu-based side has endured a difficult campaign and remains deep in the danger zone.
However, this hard-fought win could prove vital as they look to regain momentum and climb away from the bottom of the standings.
Both teams entered the encounter rooted at the foot of the table, with little separating them in form but with everything at stake. The home side started on the front foot, launching early attacks in search of an opening goal, but De Rust United’s defence held firm under pressure.
De Rust United created opportunities of their own, but failed to convert them. Their best chance came in the second half when Duran Maswatti struck the woodwork, narrowly missing what could have been the decisive goal.
Paris United continued to press onwards and eventually broke the deadlock through a composed finish by Ayabulela Faku. Jarryd Goljats nearly extended the lead, but squandered a clear chance inside the box.
The result leaves Paris United in 17th place with 22 points from 25 matches, while De Rust United remains bottom in 18th with just eight points from 26 games.
