GEORGE FOOTBALL NEWS - The Eden Region SAB Regional League champions, Infantry School Football Club from Oudtshoorn, failed to keep the hopes of the Eden region alive when they fell short in points during the group stages of the Western Cape SAB Regional League play-offs at the Glaskasteel Sports Complex in Bredasdorp.
This together with the fact that Black Cats were relegated means that, for four years running, Eden won't have a representative team in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe Provincial League.
Six teams faced off in the play-offs: Infantry FC (Eden region), Diaz Leeds FC (West Coast region), Mbekweni Sundowns FC (Cape Winelands region), Hanover Park FC (Cape Town region), Police FC (Overberg region) and Briton Stars FC (Central Karoo region).
Infantry played two games, drawing 1-1 against Diaz Leeds and losing the second 2-1 against Mbekweni Sundowns.
Police and Mbekweni Sundowns were the group winners and both teams automatically gained promotion to the Western Cape ABC Motsepe Provincial league for the upcoming season.
In the final game, Mbekweni Sundowns defeated Police 1-0 and were crowned the Western Cape SAB provincial play-off champions.
